Last week I wrote about upcoming roadblocks in prosecuting child pornography in a coherent form, now that technology allows for “deep fakes .” These questions sit interestingly within the ways that we share and distribute content online. In other words, even if we think that Facebook went too far with Cambridge Analytica, maybe we would want child pornography investigations to go extremely far—even when not conducted by the police.

In the citizen/consumer world, I see two phenomena colliding: Chinese “social credit,” and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We are thrilled to share that Faculty Director Lauren Russell earned the 2023 Raymond Vernon Memorial Award, presented by the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM). APPAM selected Dr. Russell and her co-author, Dr. Taylor Odle, for their research, “The Impact of Reverse Transfer Associate Degrees on Education and Labor Market Outcomes,” published in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM).
