Organization:
Friends of the Hopewell Quarry
City:
Hopewell
State:
New Jersey
Organization Overview:

Acquired by Friends of Hopewell Quarry 501(c)(3) in August 2021, the Hopewell Quarry has been transformed into a protected open space. Our goal is to continue operating it as a safe and welcoming environment for all, offering a swimming hole and event venue that serves families and individuals alike. We are committed to maintaining this space as a cherished community resource for many decades to come. We aim to broaden access to the Quarry, which was previously a members-only local business.

Project Name:
Grant Funding for Environmental and Infrastructure Initiatives
Project Type:
Fundraising Plan
Other
Project Overview:

We are actively seeking grant funding to support a range of critical initiatives including but not limited to infrastructure repairs and replacements, water mitigation or remediation in relation to harmful algal blooms (HABs), funding to pay bilingual part-time seasonal staff, and funding for consultants to assist in the development of our strategic plan and master plans. Primarily, we wish to immediately address issues related to our recurring harmful algal blooms (HABs) and replacement of our septic and on-site bathrooms with LEED certified, gender neutral and ADA compliant bathrooms. Experiencing HAB's requires us to close the facility and prevents us from generating the necessary revenue to fund other repair projects.

The primary goal of this project is to secure grants that could fund:
   - Strategic planning.
   - Capital repairs to aging infrastructure.
   - Replacement of outdated septic systems/ bathrooms.
   - Community stewardship programs.
   - Water mitigation and management efforts to combat the impacts of HABs.
   - Payment of seasonal staff to aid our Spanish speaking communities

   Stakeholders:
Key stakeholders include local government agencies, environmental organizations, community members, and potential funders who are invested in improving public access to green space and environmental quality of local water bodies.

Deliverable(s):

By obtaining grant funding, we aim to reduce the incidence of HABs, create a more accessible public recreational resource, secure funding for the formation of a more legitimate strategic plan, and/ or replace outdated infrastructure. A successful project will be able to identify grants that will support these essential initiatives and contribute to the long-term health of our community and environment. This grant funding is essential for our new nonprofit, as we only generate revenue for 5 months out of the year.

Potential deliverables for a successful project can include but are not limited to the following:

   1. A Grant Research Report
    - A comprehensive document identifying potential grant opportunities relevant to strategic planning, infrastructure repairs, septic replacement, water management, etc. This report should include:
    - Grant descriptions
    - Eligibility criteria
    - Application deadlines
    - Funding amounts available

   2. Application Submission Tracker
    - A tracking document to monitor the status of all grant applications, including submission dates, follow-up actions, and responses from funders.

   3. Progress Reports
    - Regular updates to stakeholders on the status of grant applications and project initiatives, detailing successes, challenges, and next steps.

   4. Final Report
    - A comprehensive report summarizing the outcomes of the grant-seeking process, including:
    - Grants received
    - Project impacts
    - Lessons learned and recommendations for future funding efforts.

These deliverables will help ensure that the grant-seeking process is organized, effective, and aligned with the goals of Friends of Hopewell Quarry.

Project Timeline:

We wish to secure potential funding for capital repairs of our septic system as well as funding for our HAB related issues as soon as possible. Therefore, a completed project would have an end date of May of 2025.
