Re:CAP Recommends: “A Shared Space for Operational Excellence” from Governing

Who: Author Stephen Goldsmith is a professor at the Harvard Kennedy School and director of the Innovations in American Government Program. He is the prior Deputy Mayor of Operations for the City of New York and former two-time Mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana.

What: Modernization should be the goal across all levels of government. The Harvard Kennedy School’s Innovations in Government program has recognized this need, creating a comprehensive effort to compile and catalog the “best-of” across government innovations.

Takeaway: Dr. Stephen Goldsmith underscores the importance of improving standards of government operations by showcasing the innovations of the State of Connecticut and the City of Memphis. The programs described reach across the government enterprise from social services to fiscal strategy and management. An open access storehouse of best-practices in public administration and management has been compiled; operational excellence across government is now in reach. Seize it.
