Organization Overview: 

The Philadelphia Parks Alliance is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to serving Philadelphia's public spaces. The mission of the Parks Alliance is to champion the public’s interest in outstanding parks, recreation, and open spaces - key to making Philadelphia a healthy, vibrant and sustainable city for all. 

The Executive Director of the Philadelphia Parks Alliance George Matysik also Chairs the board for PA Urban Park System Stakeholders’ Network. This network is interesting in that urban and rural parks have differing needs, but there are also many differences between a Harrisburg park and a Philadelphia park. The network has been around for about 2 years, but PPA was brought in 2 months ago and asked to spearhead the network. There is a monthly call with all members (about 15 people) and various calls with sub-committees (Advocacy, communications, membership, etc).

Project Overview: 

This project is an opportunity for a student to imagine what this network should be and how it can best be managed, utilized, and developed. 


The student will engage in some strategic planning with members of the network. The student will organize and galvanize the group around the 4-5 phone calls a month. The student will guide subcommittees to utilize best practices for community engagement, membership increases, and policy change.
