Fels Alumni Nominated for School Board Posts

By the end of March, Mayor Kenney will appoint nine school board members to run the School District of Philadelphia after the dissolution of the School Reform Commission on June 30th. Among the 27 names forwarded to the mayor by the city’s 9-member school board nominating panel are four Fels alumni: Lee Huang, Folasade Olanipekun-Lewis, Anuj Gupta, and Julia Danzy.

Lee Huang, MPA ‘06, is the Senior Vice President and Principal at Econsult Solutions, Inc., a Philadelphia firm that provides businesses and public policy makers with economic consulting services as well as expert witness services for litigation support. Lee is also a lecturer at Fels, teaching “Quantitative Tools for Consulting”, during which students learn the theory and application of quantitative methods utilized in financial decision-making in state and local governments.

Folasade Olanipekun-Lewis, MGA ‘96, is the Regional Director of Government and Airport Affairs for American Airlines. Additionally, Folasade is an lecturer at Fels, regularly teaching “Critical Issues in Public Finance”, a course about contemporary issues affecting the fiscal state of local governments, as well as about policies and initiatives seeking to address these issues. During her career, Folasade has additionally held a number of positions in the Philadelphia government.

Anuj Gupta, MGA ‘03, is currently the General Manager at the Reading Terminal Market Corporation, the organization dedicated to preserving the character and function of Philadelphia’s historic Reading Terminal Market. Previously, Anuj has served as Executive Director of Mt. Airy USA, Chief-of-Staff for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Licenses & Inspections, and Deputy Director of the City of Philadelphia’s Office of the Managing Director.

Julia Danzy, MGA ‘89, is currently a self-employed Human Services Consultant specializing in the area of child welfare, with work relating to organizational design, integrated data systems, and program design. Previously, Julia served as Director of Social Services and Deputy Commissioner of Health for the City of Philadelphia, as well as in a number of other social service positions in Connecticut, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
