Tuesday, February 20, 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm
Event Information:

The Fels Institute of Government is proud to support the Fels Policy Research Initiative's event Partners in Policy: A New City O/S. Neil Kleinman, NYU professor and co-author of A New City O/S will discuss government innovation. At a time when American government at the national level has fallen into a state of long-term, partisan-based gridlock, local government can still be effective—indeed more effective and even more responsive to the needs of its citizens. In his book, New York University professor Neil Kleiman proposes a new operating system (O/S) for cities building on the giant leaps that have been made in technology, social engagement, and big data.

The panel will feature Anjali Chainani, director of policy for the City of Philadelphia, and of GovLabPHL. In this role, Chainani has partnered with academics such as Dan Hopkins (Political Science) to use behavioral science and human-centered design to improve city services. Hopkins is also the recipient of a Fels Policy Research Initiative grant to support the Philadelphia Behavioral Science Initiative, which brings together leaders from government and academia together to discuss how the social and behavioral sciences can be deployed to create more effective policies and programs in Philadelphia.
