The Fels Institute of Government is proud to host Michael Nadol, Meredith Brett, Ian Tyson, and Lindsey Hatch for a discussion on student involvement with PFM.

The PFM guests will speak about specific projects, opportunities for students, and the type of work students might do if they applied to work at PFM. 

About the Speakers: 

Michael Nadol is a Managing Director with PFM and President of PFM Group Consulting LLC, specializing in public sector financial sustainability and workforce strategies. Prior to joining PFM, Mike served the City of Philadelphia in positions including Deputy Mayor, Director of Labor Negotiations and Director of Finance. In these roles, he worked on management and budget initiatives key to the city’s fiscal turnaround in the early 1990’s and led contract negotiations covering over 22,000 municipal employees.  At PFM, Mike provides strategic, quantitative and analytical support for collective bargaining and human resources reforms on behalf of many of the nation’s largest public employers.  

Meredith Brett joined PFM in 2016 and currently serves as a Senior Managing Consultant in the firm’s Philadelphia office. She focuses primarily on education projects through her work with the Pennsylvania Department of Education on their Recovery Schools program and the Cyber Charter renewal process. Prior to joining PFM, Ms. Brett worked as a Performance Management Project Manager at the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Human Services (DHS). Her work concentrated on the maximization of federal revenues, along with issues of compliance, timeliness, and accuracy. She also worked on projects related to the implementation of Improving Outcomes for Children (IOC), as well as on projects related to DHS’ selection as a recipient of a federal Waiver for child welfare funding. Meredith holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Government from The College of William and Mary and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.

Ian Tyson is a Senior Analyst in PFM’s Management and Budget Consulting practice where he provides quantitative research and analytical support. Prior to joining PFM, Ian served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in a small business development organization in the New York City area.  Mr. Tyson graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor’s degree in History.  He completed his Master of Public Administration degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Fels Institute of Government in May 2017. Ian serves as the lead analyst for technical assistance engagements for Pennsylvania school districts designated to be in financial recovery.  He has worked on school district engagements that have included the preparation of multi-year financial projections, evaluation of initiatives to raise revenues or control cost growth, and review of organizational structures of school district administration functions. In addition, Ian has also led or supported multiple revenue enhancement and cost recovery efforts on behalf clients across the nation. 

Lindsey Hatch  is an HR / Recruiting Specialist for PFM based in the firm’s Philadelphia headquarters.  As part of PFM’s Human Resources team, she is involved in firm-wide professional recruitment.  Lindsey earned her BA in Psychology from The College of New Jersey where she also competed as a student-athlete, holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Temple University, and maintains a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
