Faculty: Brett Matteo
Brett Matteo is Partner and Managing Director at Public Financial Management, the nation’s leading financial and investment advisory firm to state and local governments. Mr. Matteo has more than twenty years of public finance experience, including positions in the public finance departments of two leading Wall Street investment banks. He has served as investment banker and financial advisor to numerous governmental entities and has been involved in the issuance of nearly $50 billion of municipal securities. Mr. Matteo received his MBA from the Wharton School and also holds a Master of Arts degree in geology from the University of Missouri and a Bachelor of Science degree in geological oceanography from Duke University. Mr. Matteo has taught public finance throughout his career, to investment bankers, financial advisors, and governmental clients. His courses are well known in the industry.
The purpose of the course is to provide a detailed understanding of finance in the public sector with a focus on investment banking. The course provides students with a broad-based and technical overview of public finance and municipal bonds as well as a thorough understanding of the business aspects of public finance. This course satisfies an elective requirement in the Master of Public Administration program and a core requirement in the Certificate in Public Finance program.
