Harry Mayer '98: Leadership in Action in Haiti
Harry Mayer '98, Field Supervisor for the US Department of Health and Human Services Regional Emergency Coordinator Program, just returned from Port-au-Prince, Haiti where he was a US Government Liaison to the Pan American Health Organization.
During the first three weeks of the Haiti Earthquake response, Harry helped coordinate the multi-national health and medical response. As of February 1, 275 Federal health providers treated 24,500 earthquake victims, conducted over 100 field surgeries, and delivered 28 babies.
Maisha Leek (MPA '09) Presenting a Program on Women in Politics Attacking Poverty
Alumna Maisha Leek, Chief of Staff to Congressman Chaka Fattah, has been asked by the Kennedy School at Harvard University to speak about “Women in Politics Attacking Poverty.” Ms. Leek presented the same program last fall and will focus on how her office has been able to successfully legislate and advocate, in a divided Congress, issues important to poor communities and communities of color. Fels Congratulates Alumnus John Hawkins On Promotion
The Fels Institute of Government would like to congratulate faculty member and alumnus, John Hawkins on his recent promotion to Vice President for City Relations at S. R. Wojdak & Associates, LP. Since joining the firm almost 8 years ago, Mr. Hawkins has effectively lobbied on a variety of issues in Philadelphia City Hall and has been recognized by Philadelphia Magazine as one of the city’s top behind the scenes “power brokers.”
