Fels Represented in Upcoming Pennsylvania State Elections

February 16, 2012

The Fels Institute of Government is proud to be represented in the upcoming Pennsylvania State Elections. After an intensive two month recruitment period current certificate in politics candidate Madeleine Dean has been nominated to represent the Democratic Party in the 153rd Legislative District. The House Seat was recently vacated by Josh Shapiro when he assumed his duties as County Commissioner. The process concluded with a two hour debate, after which the Upper Dublin School Board Director David Robinson moved that the 153rd Democratic Committee endorse Dean for State Representative. The motion was adopted unanimously.

Honored by the unanimous endorsement Dean remarked:

I thank the Committee for its confidence in me, and I welcome the challenges of the campaign ahead. I pledge to our communities in Abington and Upper Dublin that I will be the strongest advocate for us and our values in Harrisburg.

If elected Dean promised her main focus would be on leadership, public service and creating a livable and economically thriving Abington Township.

Currently the Abington Township Commissioner as well as an Assistant Professor at La Salle University, Dean earned a B.A. in English from La Salle University and a J.D. from Widener University. She has served as Executive Director of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and opened a law practice in Glenside. She currently resides in Glenside with her husband Patrick Cunnane and their three sons.
