The Fels Institute has formal relationships with public service organizations like AmeriCorps, City Year, Peace Corps, Teach for America, and the Public Policy and International Affairs program and highly encourages alumni of these programs to consider us for a graduate program. We believe that the same qualities that allowed you to complete these programs will help you make significant contributions in and out of the classroom. When applying, please indicate your affiliation with one or numerous of these organizations in hyour personal statement.
Public Service Partnership Benefits
- Two-year deferral for students who are admitted to our programs and choose to join the Peace Corps or Teach for America (one year for AmeriCorps)
- Any applicant to the Fels Institute of Government who is a member/alumnus of Americorps, Teach for America, the Peace Corps, or the Public Policy and International Affairs program is eligible for an application fee waiver. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org (attention: Maura Tucker) to request a fee waiver code, which much be used on the payment screen before submitting the application
- For PPIA alumni, a minimum of a one-time $5,000 scholarship, and for AmeriCorps, Teach for America, and the Peace Corps a minimum $8,000 scholarship for full-time MPA students per year (renewable for the second year of study). Additional scholarship amounts are dependent on the merit of each application. Scholarship will be pro-rated for Executive MPA and dual-degree students. Certificate-only students are not eligible.
Peace Corps' Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program
We are proud to participate in the Peace Corps’ Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program. Established in 1985, Coverdell Fellows (formerly known as Fellows/USA) is a partnership between the Peace Corps and selected graduate schools across the country.
