Welcome to the Fels Public Policy Internship Program Website!

The goal of the Fels Public Policy Internship Program is to help students connect their academic experience here at Penn with real world policy experience in Washington, D.C. and New York City. 

In Washington, the Fels Public Policy Internship Program helps students identify and apply for internships for both the summer and the academic year. When summer comes, we shift gears and operate the Penn in Washington program, which arranges mentoring events with Penn alumni who are living and working in the Washington area, and manages a summer-long speakers program.  For more information, students and alumni can visit our Washington page.

In New York, we match students with an interest in law and public policy careers with alumni mentors working in similar fields.  A limited number of internships are also available.  For more information, students and alumni can visit our New York City page.

On campus, we offer courses that incorporate the internship experience. Course readings include theoretical perspectives on the policy process and case studies, and writing requirements are similar in style and substance to the writing expected in the public policy field.  For more information, please visit our Penn page.

Summer 2008 Program

The deadline to apply for the 2008 Fels Public Policy Internship Program has passed. A number of students have already been accepted to internships at the State Department, Office of Naval Intelligence, in Congress and with lobbying firms. Students interested in attending Penn in Washington events this summer may enroll now.

Penn in Washington participants meet with Meg Lundsager, Executive Director, International Monetary Fund(IMF). Ms. Lundsager casts the U.S. vote at the IMF Board of Directors and works closely with Fund staff, management and U.S. government officials to develop and implement IMF policies, including lending programs to member countries.
